Bookham Announces Qualified Analog Low-Ripple Filter for CaTV and FTTx Markets Printable version San Jose, CA – June 26, 2008 – Bookham, Inc. (Nasdaq: BKHM), has announced that its low-ripple filter for analog transmission in the CaTV (Cable Television) and FTTx (Fibre-to-the-X) markets is now customer qualified and is in volume production. The filter enables cable equipment manufacturers to increase capacity in the network by using Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology. Incorporating the Bookham proprietary and patent pending design, the filter boasts very low ripple slope, a ripple of <0.01dB and chromatic dispersion of ≤+/-15ps/nm, and is designed for use in the O-Band, C-Band and L-Band. “Our ripple values demonstrated with this filter are as much as twenty times better than the industry norm,” said product line manager, Anthony Abdilla. “Bandwidth expansion over analog transmission requires the flattest, highest performance ripple filters to ensure low interference and high CSO (Composite Second Order) values, and with the product successfully qualified and into full-volume production we are ideally suited to meet the needs of the major cable operators and service providers.” This filter expands the Bookham portfolio of products designed for the CaTV and FTTx markets. The fully qualified high power 6W multimode pump module was launched in February and is targeted at providing the power and reliability required for pumping next generation amplifiers in cable and FTTx networks. It is thought to be the highest power telecom grade multimode pump module in the industry.
